University Laboratory High School administration, faculty, staff and students are members of a community with a common purpose: to foster the intellectual and personal growth of the students. Uni High encourages the free exchange of ideas between individuals. As members of the school community, students are to base their behavior on mutual trust and respect for the rights of others. The staff and students at University Laboratory High School represent different sexual orientation, ethnic, religious, national, and cultural backgrounds. Such diversity in background greatly enriches the environment at University Laboratory High School and individual differences are to be treated with unqualified respect. Such a diverse community must establish standards of behavior which ensure that all students live in a safe atmosphere, free of disruption by others. Cooperation between school and home is essential to ensure that all students receive the full benefits from enrollment at Uni.
All students are entitled to enjoy the rights protected by the Federal and State Constitutions and laws for persons of their age and maturity in a school setting. Students should exercise these rights reasonably and avoid violating the rights of others. Students who violate the rights of others or violate Uni policies or rules will be subject to disciplinary measures.
This Code of Student Conduct provides students, parent(s)/guardian(s), school personnel, and the public with a description of the expectations for the behavior of all students. The Code contains definitions of inappropriate student conduct and possible courses of action which school officials may use to discipline students who behave in ways which are disruptive or inappropriate. This Code does not restrict in any way the authority of the administration to make rules for the governance and operation of the school, or the authority of other staff members to make rules as are necessary for their respective areas of responsibility. The following guidelines are not meant to affect the authority of the faculty to take disciplinary action within the classroom, but to provide a general framework within which disciplinary matters can be placed.
