4.5 COMPUTER LAB USAGES

n Standards of Behavior Students who use the computer labs are expected to maintain acceptable standards of classroom decorum. Any other use, including playing music or running software not included by the system staff, will be considered cause for disciplinary action and possible loss of computer privileges. Students .plan files are public documents accessible to minors, so students cannot include offensive language in their introductory message. Teachers may reserve the computer labs for class use by sending email to the Technology Director at gregs@uiuc.edu. The labs are run on a first-come, first-served basis. A teacher who has reserved the lab may decide whether or not to allow other students to use available terminals.
n Computer Laboratory Rules NOTE: Violations of the laboratory rules or the University Laboratory High School computer usage agreement will result in loss of computer privileges or other disciplinary action.
No eating or drinking in the labs.
No games of any kind, MUDs or Internet chat.
Labs may be closed during classes.
If there is a shortage of available machines, users must give up their computers if they are needed for a higher priority use. Priorities for use of the computers are:
1. Regular classes meeting in the computer labs;
2. Working on assigned homework and class projects;
3. Personal communication (e-mail, web browsing, etc.);
4. Other recreational uses.
Do not install any software, or modify or delete any system files on any lab computers.
CD-ROMs and other multimedia equipment are for school work only. Do not use them for playing music or other recreational activities.
Respect the equipment. Do not remove or disconnect any parts or cables.
Do not read or modify other users files.
Keep your passwords to yourself. Change your password right away if you think someone else may know it. Do not use .rhosts files or other methods to bypass the system password prompts.
Never impersonate another user by using their name or password. Do not access files, accounts or other systems you are not authorized to use.
Do not run programs that continue to execute after you log off.
Keep the labs clean.
