All students and faculty members sign the Computer System Usage Agreement, which outlines the following responsibilities related to computer usage at Uni:
The University Laboratory High School computer network (the Network) consists of computer servers and workstations installed for student and staff use in the high school and associated buildings, the local area network that connects them, and those parts of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign campus network (UIUCNet) used to connect University Laboratory High School (Uni High) to the rest of UIUCNet and the Internet.
In exchange for the use of the University Laboratory High School computer network, either at school or remotely, I understand and agree that the use of the Network is a privilege, which may be revoked by the administrators of the Network or of University Laboratory High School at any time for abusive conduct. Such conduct includes, but is not limited to:
Altering system software or files, or installing unauthorized software;
Placing unlawful information, computer viruses, or other harmful programs on the Network;
Allowing others to access your personal Uni High computer account(s);
Accessing files, accounts or computer systems you are not authorized to use;
Impersonating other users by using their accounts or login names;
Sending threats or harassments by electronic mail;
Sending or forwarding e-mail chain letters;
Using Uni High computing resources for commercial use or political campaigning;
Falsifying the originating address of any e-mail message or newsgroup posting;
Damaging or defacing any computer or network equipment.
The Network is intended for exclusive use by its registered users who are responsible for the use of their passwords and accounts on the Network. Any problems that arise from the use of an account are the responsibility of the account holder. Any misuse may result in suspension or revocation of Network privileges.
Administrators reserve the right to remove any material stored in computer files which they, in their sole discretion, believe may be unlawful, obscene, in violation of copyright, or otherwise unrelated to the teaching and laboratory mission of the school.
Users will not use their school-supplied computer accounts to obtain, view or otherwise gain access to the material described above.
The Network is intended for the following uses, in order of priority:
1. Academic support;
2. Communications;
3. General information retrieval;
4. Recreation.
Users doing lower priority activities must yield their computer if it is needed for a higher priority use.
Although the Network administrators will try to meet users needs and requests, there is no guarantee that they will be able to do so, nor that Network services will be error free or uninterrupted. Administrators reserve the right to add, delete, edit and reconfigure files, accounts, software and services as necessary to maintain and upgrade the Network and its computers. The Network administrators and University Laboratory High School will not be liable for any direct or indirect, incidental or consequential damages (including lost data, information or profits) sustained in connection with the use, operation, or inability to use the Network.
I release the Network, its operators, administrators, University Laboratory High School and the University of Illinois from any and all claims of any nature arising from my use or inability to use the Network or the information available through it.
I will abide by such rules and regulations of Network use as may be added from time to time by the Network administrators. These rules will be posted on public display in the computer laboratories and online.
Like other UIUC campus computer users, Uni High students are also bound by all University of Illinois regulations regarding computer and network policies, found in the following documents:
Campus Administrative Manual, University of Illinois website
Code on Campus Affairs and Handbook of Policies and Regulations Applying to All Students, University of Illinois website
