2.3 FINANCIAL OBLIGATIONS

Home > About Uni > School Policies > Student Handbook > 2.3

n Enrollment Fees — At registration before the school year begins, students pay course and activity fees. Students who do not want a yearbook can request a refund. Families pay dues to the Parent-Faculty Organization. Fees are not tax deductible and must be paid to University Laboratory High School, not the University of Illinois Foundation. Payment schedules and fee waivers can be arranged by contacting the Office Manager.

n Textbooks and Supplies — Because Uni is a laboratory school, faculty members are allowed to select and compile their own instructional materials. Students are required to purchase texts and supplies. Scholarship funds to help defray the cost of textbooks are available from Uni High. A list of required and recommended textbooks, calculators, compiled instructional materials, and supplies will be included in the summer registration packet. Students may purchase books at the Uni High Book Bar held in August, or at the campus bookstores. Be sure to write your name on/in your textbooks, notebooks, and binders. Used books may be recycled through the Uni High Book Bar.

n Financial Assistance — Registration fee waivers and scholarship funds to help defray the cost of textbooks are available from Uni High. Families needing financial assistance should contact the Assistant Director and provide the first page of their 1040 tax return from the previous year as documentation of need. Books purchased by Uni High must be returned to the Assistant Director at the end of the school year.

n Optional Insurance — If you have no other insurance, there is a low-cost, basic coverage plan available at registration. If interested, please see the school receptionist.

n Education Fund Pledges — As a public laboratory high school, Uni cannot charge tuition and makes no admissions decisions based on a family’s ability to pay for fees and books. Financial assistance to cover fees and books is available from the school.

Because Uni is not part of a local school district, it receives no local property tax dollars. Uni does receive funds from the Illinois State Board of Education through the general state aid formula. Each year Uni parent(s)/guardian(s) are asked to contribute voluntarily to the Parent Education Fund. These donations are fully tax-deductible and help ensure the on-going quality of the educational program. More information about the Parent Education Fund and other giving opportunities at Uni is available by contacting the Development Office, 244-8586.

n End-of-the-Year Checkout Fees — Replacement fees for unreturned library materials and repair fees for damaged lockers should be paid by June 15. Unpaid assessments will result in encumbered registration or encumbered release of transcripts.
