Update: June 22, 2007

Please do NOT buy a textbook until you have received your official course assignment for next year!!!

Algebra 1
  • Math Connections, Year 1 Set (two books), published by It's About Time Publishing, Inc.
  • A graphing calculator  (TI-84 Plus strongly recommended).

Geometry

Algebra 2 with Trigonometry

Advanced Topics in Mathematics
  • Precalculus: Functions and Graphs, 5th ed., by Barnett, Ziegler, & Byleen, published by McGraw Hill, 2001.
  • A Graphing calculator (same one used in class last year).

Statistics

For the 2007-2008 school year, I am recommending (not requiring) a textbook
  • Statistics:  Concepts and Methods, by Ditlev Monrad, William F. Stout, James Harner, et al, published by Möbius Communications.  You may find softcover editions (newer) or hardcover editions in bookstores.  The hardcover textbooks have mostly lost their cover and binding after a year or so.

  • I have a limited supply of alternative textbooks that students may sign out and return at the end of the year (purchased through the Illinois Textbook Loan program).

  • A Graphing calculator (TI-84 Plus [or TI-83 Plus, or TI-83] strongly recommended).

  • A license key for using "StatCrunch," available at www.statcrunch.com for $8.00 for a 12-month subscription

Calculus

Calculus 1 (also Accelerated Calculus 1):

Calculus 2/3:

Calculators

All University High School students enrolled in a mathematics course are required to have a graphing calculator. Since teachers use the TI-84 Plus (or TI-83), we recommend that students use the same calculator. Students who wish to use another calculator are responsible for learning how to use their calculator!!!

If you are buying a graphing calculator, we prefer that you get a TI-84 PLUS (or TI-83 PLUS, or TI-83, or TI-84). If you already own a different graphing calculator on this list, you may use it.  In addition, students who own hand-held computing devices with graphing capability, or any other calculator or computing device with similar functionality, may use them in any class (but they are not allowed on Advanced Placement examinations).  Teachers reserve the right to prohibit sharing of calculators, computers, etc., and to require that memories be cleared before or after examinations on which such devices were used.

Please DO NOT buy a TI-85, TI-86, or TI-89, TI-92, or TI Explorer/Voyage, unless you are a really good manual reader/user... the instructions for using these differ substantially from other calculators in use.

Students who intend to take the Advanced Placement exam in Calculus or Statistics will be allowed to use graphing calculators on those exams; check http://apcentral.collegeboard.com/repository/ap04_calculator_polic_36720.pdf for specific model listings approved (the TI-92 and TI Explorer are NOT approved for AP use).
