History Comes Alive
Imagine a course in which history is taught through a series
of historical units which
- present the textual information in a clear, intelligent, and
informative manner,
- provide the instructor with the ability to give the classroom
lecture in a compelling visual fashion which attracts the students' attention and enhances
their understanding, and
- reinforce the concepts taught in class through computerized
laboratory sessions giving each student the ability to experiment with every concept
covered in class in a hands-on fashion.
Exactly such a course, the result of over a decade of
research and development, is currently being taught to students in the Western
Civilization classes at an accelerated
university-affiliated high school in Urbana, Illinois.
The intellectual effects on the students are nothing less
than astounding.
