Richard M. Noyes Class of 1935
The late Richard M. Noyes was a chemistry professor at the University of Oregon. He was elected to the National Academy of Sciences in 1977 and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences in 1989. Noyes pioneered studies of oscillating chemical reactions, including the world-renowned ŇOregonatorÓ system. He was a graduate of Harvard and the California Institute of Technology. He also was heavily involved with the Sierra Club and worked to conserve natural resources. His major and continuing efforts involved influencing Northwest land use decisions.
