Monica Fountain is the Assistant Director of Development and Alumni Relations at the University of Illinois Laboratory High School. Fountain earned her bachelor’s degree, summa cum laude, in news-editorial journalism from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She also was a British Marshall Scholar from 1992 to 1994 and earned a bachelor’s degree in politics from the University of Sussex in Brighton, England.

Before joining Uni, Fountain was a lecturer and coordinator of the Professional and Technical Writing program at Chicago State University and a consultant to Chicago State’s student newspaper. She previously worked as a staff writer for the Chicago Tribune and as a freelance writer for such publications as The Washington Post and Black Enterprise magazine. She also worked as the assistant director of the Roosevelt University Summer High School Journalism Workshop in Chicago.

Fountain and her husband, John W. Fountain, a professor of journalism at the U of I, are the parents of two children, a daughter, Imani and a son, Malik.
