Isaac Chambers places second in photo contest
Posted Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2006, The OG, student awards
The students who participated in Isaac Chambers' Photography 101 class during Agora Days evidently had a teacher who knew what he was talking about.
Chambers, a freshman, won second place in the youth division of the 2006 Champaign County Camera Club Photographic Print Competition. Sunday's News-Gazette ran a major spread on the winners. Chambers won for his photo titled “Sioux Falls on the Rocks.”
He wasn't the only person with a Uni connection to turn the heads of judges. Amanda Palla, a 1997 Uni graduate and current coach of the girls varsity volleyball team, won first place in the animals category for her photo titled “Feline Stare.”
Chas Conway, a 2001 Uni graduate, earned third place in the general division for his photo titled “Calm After a Storm.”
A total of 238 photographers competed in this year's contest, submitting 588 prints.
For those who missed Chambers' Agora class, don't worry — you'll have a chance to see the fruits of everyone's work. Chambers intends to produce a book containing the best photos taken during the course.
