Many Uni students know Susan Mynatt as PE teacher Doug Mynatt's wife. Others know her as a former volleyball coach. Some know her as the account technician who keeps Uni's finances in order and always helps with pizza sales. And still others know her as the nice lady who works at the south end of the second-floor hallway.
And now she's leaving us.
March 3 will be Susan's last day as an employee at Uni High; she has accepted a position with the business office at Facilities & Services on campus.
“An opportunity in another department came up, and I saw it as a way to expand on the knowledge that I already have of the campus,” she says. “It'll be something new. A new challenge.”
However, she insists she will maintain her ties to Uni High.
“I'm still going to visit Uni, and people will see me at cross-country and track meets [husband Doug coaches those teams] and basketball games and things like that.”
The 1991 graduate of St. Joseph-Ogden High School began her association with Uni in 2000 when she became an assistant volleyball coach. Susan Osterbur joined Uni as an account technician in April 2002. The U of I alum has worked for the university since graduating in 1995.
She and Doug were married on June 15, 2002. They are expecting their first child this June. [Note: For the story behind Susan and Doug's romance, see this Gargoyle article from Nov. 3, 2003.]
Susan feels that the thing she will miss most about Uni is interacting with the students.
“There are moments when I just want to strangle some of you,” she says, “but for the most part you are all very nice to be around.”
To anyone who wants to give Susan a going-away gift, she loves all kinds of chocolate.
