Each year in early May, Uni students and faculty members band together to raise money for a community service organization. X-Week 2006 starts today and will feature a variety of class-sponsored fund-raising activities to benefit the local chapter of Habitat for Humanity.
• Subbies: On Wednesday, the class will sponsor a timed Fruit Loop eating contest.
• Freshmen: The class will sell raffle tickets throughout the week. Raffle prizes include a ticket to Six Flags (first prize), a $50 iTunes gift certificate (second prize), a “King Kong” DVD (third prize), two $10 gift certificates to Cold Stone Creamery, and two $5 Bevande CafĂ© (Siebel Center) gift certificates.
• Sophomores: The class will sell water balloons to throw at teachers during lunch. Balloons will cost 50 cents each. [Update: The event, originally scheduled for Tuesday, was moved to Thursday because of concern about the weather. It has been postponed a second time. As of Thursday morning, a new time and date haven't been set.]
• Juniors: The class will sell raffle tickets for pies throughout the week.
• Seniors: On Friday, the class will host the Senior Auction during lunch, from 11:23 a.m. to 12:22 p.m. Classes will be shortened that day to allow time for it. Here is Friday's bell schedule:
— 1st period: 8-8:47 a.m.
— 2nd period: 8:52-9:39 a.m.
— 3rd period: 9:44-10:31 a.m.
— 4th period: 10:36-11:23 a.m.
— Senior Auction/lunch: 11:23 a.m.-12:22 p.m.
— 5th period: 12:27-1:14 p.m.
— 6th period: 1:19-2:06 p.m.
— 7th period: 2:11-2:58 p.m.
— 8th period: 3:03-3:50 p.m.
Raffle winners will be announced during the auction as well.
Big Show, which consists of student-written comedic skits, will be performed Friday and Saturday at 7:30 p.m. in the North Attic. All of its proceeds wil be donated to the cause.
The school goal is to raise $2,000, which is $500 more than last year's final amount of $1,500.
“I think raising up to $2,000 would be impressive and beneficial to the local chapter of Habitat for Humanity,” said Student Council president Roveiza Irfan. “I think as a school we should aim to raise more than last year.”
