Is a student honor council on the horizon?

Do students want an honor council at Uni? The Student-Faculty Advisory Committee is polling students this week to find out.
Last year, executive math teacher Craig Russell first brought up the concept of an honor council, which would be at least partly comprised of students, as a way to incorporate student input in dealing with cheating incidents. This year, SFAC is planning to develop such a model for Uni if there is enough interest as gauged by the vote.
The voting has taken place this week in English class and will end today. Students have received descriptions of honor councils at other schools to give an idea of how such systems might work, but a potential honor council at Uni is not limited to these models.
Honor councils at other schools have functions that range from recommending steps to correct behavior to deciding on punishments, subject to administrative approval.
At this point, it is not decided exactly how much interest would be necessary for SFAC to pursue the implementation of an honor council. But if too few students show interest, the issue will be dropped, according to SFAC senior representative Michael Belmont.
If SFAC does proceed to discuss the honor council further, it would still need approval from Student Council and the faculty before taking effect.
