What is super underrated daytime TV?

Game shows are almost always inane, often corny, and rarely do they require skill. Just look at "Family Feud." Actually, please don’t look at "Family Feud," unless you like migraines.

But now that college basketball and football are out of season, sophomore Linda Ly gets some credit for showing me the perfect replacement “I’m going to scream and throw stuff at the TV because I can’t believe you just messed up that great chance for accomplishment” material. Material OTHER than the Indiana and North Carolina primaries.

Speaking of Hillary Clinton, did you know that in February someone edited her Wikipedia entry and replaced her photo with a picture of a walrus? I didn’t, until today when I was watching "Jeopardy."

Other things I've learned from "Jeopardy": Bill Cosby is actually Bill Cosby Jr. In England they call French toast "Poor Knights of Windsor." There’s a genetically altered cow named Marge in New Zealand, and she gives off low-fat milk. None of this information is essential to my life whatsoever, but knowing it makes my day seem a little bit brighter, and adds that much-needed swagger to everyday conversations.

"Jeopardy" is even supposed to be putting its online entrance quiz on its Web site sometime later this year. Even though I don’t know nearly enough trivia, and the whole answering with a question to a question that’s actually an answer thing is really confusing, it would be fun to take just to see if I could make it on nonlocal TV at some point in my life.

"Jeopardy" has even convinced me to dig up my old freshman history book to figure out the difference between the Minoans and Mycenaeans. Otherwise I would have just kept imagining that the two were high school football rivals and probably called each other Cretins. (Get it? Cause they both lived on Crete and all … sorry — that’s not funny.)

Of course, there are some downsides. The "Final Jeopardy" round is a rip-off. And locally the show airs at 4:30, meaning that for the first time in years I haven’t been watching Oprah.

However, "Jeopardy" combines useless but fun information, people who aren’t completely stupid, and the fact that there’s no Regis Philbin! You can’t go wrong. If you aren’t in spring sports or doing something remotely productive with your life, you should really give it a try.
