Not your father's graffiti
And here I thought graffiti was all about spray painting slogans on walls and trains in the dead of night. Nicholas Ganz's book Graffiti World: Street Art From Five Continents (751.73 G159g) informs us that graffiti has become high art, not only here, but all over the world. Check out the work of this unknown artist in Paris:

what's it supposed to be?
i think you're missing the point
(who ever said "what is it supposed to be").
Okay well if you say that the person who said "what's it supposed to be?" is missing the point, then what IS the point? Or, what do you think is the theme/tone of this image?
that's what is wonderful about art, and making one. You don't limit a piece into one description. Something must have driven the artist to do it, but asking what is it suppose to be, deteriorates the essence . Artwork is a tool, a form of communication, but it talks with the psyche, not with the senses. The artist dream for you, now step in to you subconscious and understand the meaning…

it's a cow
this is a phat piece of graffiti, i am a graffiti artist and it is not about just sprayin explicit words on walls which in all fairness is vandilism but actual art like this is respectable give some respect Damn!
well graffiti is about self expression, you have you own style your own form, abdstract, simple what ever. research graffiti history and youll learn what " that is suposed be"
Graffiti has not evolved! it has been this good since it appeared only people are ignorant!you have 2 know the graffiti artist's mind if u want 2 understand his art.
I do believe the term is called street art
its more artistic then your normal tagging and such
cool picture, when you first look at it
kinda weird when you know what it is
well personally i think this piece is horrible.
maybe the artist didnt want this piece to have point.
but if you saw that on the street you may stop to look at it but its vulgar and pointless... it doesnt change your perspective on anything...its just boring and almost immature.
to theguy that say's "graffiti hasn't evolved." it really comes from your stand point. i've been a writer since 1976 and growing up in the bronx seeing and writing graffiti every day i've seen many different forms and styles all around the world. graffit hasn't exactly evolved in an exact sense but it has definitely grown and even died out depending on where you live. back when i was yonger it was a lot more simple, i mean sure itlooked great and set a good point for the future writers to build off of but we didn't have as much shading or alot of the different kinds of paint that there are today.
this is a very nice art piece. graffiti is a great thing to look at on the internet. but the internet is stealing a lot of artwork and people who look at artwork on the internet are thieves. go buy the book its in. you are ruining artwork and the capabilities of it.
who cares wht it means. its a cool image
i remember this dog, it's in a place called "les frigos de paris"...
it's surrealism
it's not supposed to look like anthing real
comeon!
think OUTSIDE the box!
its weird as hell
i think the picture is funny and awesome. Art is all around us, as humans we should accept it for art makes us individuals.
nada que ver las cosas son lo uno quiere que sean me parece que es un grafo increible la imaginacion no tiene limites ni nosotros tampoco solo los que nos ponemos......
GRAFFITI is all about confusion. as in you need to be careful looking at it, and think "What's it supposed to be?". this is art
art is a blast!!

Come across that when are tripping, then u should ask what its sposed to be
the guy who said this is boring and mundane is an idiot, i mean look at it it takes a special kind of imagination to create such a warped image of an everyday animal. very good
Okay, as the author of this post (and blog), I'd love to know how everyone is finding it. I wrote it two-and-a-half years ago to promote a very cool book I bought for my high school library collection. But the law of unintended consequences has made it one of the most visited pages on our school's web server. I've only been able to find a link to it here: www.fototags.nl/tag/graffiti.html (and that only works part of the time). How is the word getting out?
i want to know wat kind of person would make this because i think that is pretty cool looking!!! it's actualy neat that someone could acauly do that with people living around there. who ever did i give them tumbs up~!!!
In response to franceylibrarian: I googled graffiti, and it was one of the first images that came up. It really caught my attention and stood out from the others, so I clicked on it. The resulting dialog is very interesting/amusing. I feel like I'm back at school! =) Blogs are cool, mostly because you can say whatever you want under the guise of "anonymous".
Thank you so much, "Anonymous"! I may have to turn in my librarian license. I was trying to make my search way too complicated.
omg its like a damned mutant dog!!!
in some ways it may b cool but some people dont like that oaught of stuff u KNOW WHAT IM SAYING!!!???
its sick in a bad way..........
I dont really see the point.. and who ever thinks they know the point mmust be lieing b/c they just want to be "smart"....when i looked at this it looked like a dog and his balls showing or pooping out meatballs or something not "right"
this is crap!
this is MY take on the art. so if you disagree so be it, but as has been said plenty of times before, art is for interpretation. There is no set standard or meaning. On that note, it seems to represent a sort of distorted image of domestication in the new world. A sort of bastardized form of a dog (prehaps to chemicals or whatever) that is taking in the corrupt world we live in. I really like this piece a lot
