Gender Equality In Sports
This site is the creation of two professors at The University of Iowa whose research centers around affairs in interscholastic and intercollegite sports. Website includes a history of Title IX issues, news, and resources.
Save Title IX
This web site is a bipartisan project of National Coalition for Women and Girls in Education with a web site where citizens can communicate directly with President George W. Bush and Congress about the need to preserve Title IX.

Institute for Diversity and Ethics in Sport
The Institute for Diversity and Ethics in Sport at the University of Central Florida performs research and serves as a resource for “issues related to gender and race in amateur, collegiate and professional sports.” The site includes full access to extensive and detailed reports and studies published by the Institute on issues of race and gender in sports.

A general guide to information about the University of Illinois is available on this University Library guide, compiled for the Ethnography of the University project.
The University of Illinois Archives includes over 17,000 cubic feet of office records, publications, and personal
papers from the University and the Urbana-Champaign campus. All files are subject-indexed and searchable online.
For a concise overview of the University's history, read former University Archivist Maynard Brichford's Brief History of the University of Illinois (PDF file). It was written in 1970 and revised in 1983.

If you would like more detail on one of these collections go to the Search Collections page and type the collection name in the search field.
On the main archives page select Frequently Asked Questions for a history of the term, "Fighting Illini." Here you'll find relevant links for research on the Chief Illiniwek controversy.
Be sure to check a page called the Black Athlete at U of I. The introductory paragraph is quite helpful.
Select browse by Subject to browse alphabetically for relevant Subjects, such as women's athletics, women's sports, women's basketball,women's athletic association, physical education for women, women's athletic association, intercollegiate athletics, wheel chair basketball, Chief Illiniwek, athletic eligibility (admissions). When you find a collection that looks useful click on the link to view a description. Some collections link to detailed listings of the archive box contents.
You might also want to browse files related to the Division of Intercollegiate Athletics. Click browse by Campus Unit and scroll to the division. However, browsing by subject will likely yield more results on your topic.
You can also combine subject headings in the search box, e.g., "Disabled Students and Sports". Click the box next to "Include Box Lists" to see listings of box contents for a collection. To search the archives Google-style click on PDF/ Deep Search and type your terms. Rather than searching subject headings, this searches over 17,000 pages of box/folder listings in pdf form.

The National Collegiate Athletic Association
The NCAA is a voluntary association of 1,200 colleges and universities, athletic conferences and sports organizations devoted to the sound administration of intercollegiate athletics. Its goals are to promote student-athletes and college sports through public awareness, protect student-athletes through standards of fairness and integrity, prepare student-athletes for lifetime leadership, provide students with funding to help meet those goals.
