AT THE END of each school year, the local Kiwanis Club teams up with area high schools to honor outstanding seniors.
This year, Dana Al-Qadi, Maddy Hamlin, Ben Hyman, and Liz Reese have been selected to represent Uni High at the annual Kiwanis Youth Recognition Luncheon.
Sponsored by the Champaign-Urbana Noon Kiwanis Club, the event will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. May 17 at the Round Barn Center in Champaign.
The club annually recognizes seniors in Champaign-Urbana, selected by their high schools, for both academic and extracurricular achievements.
Members of Uni's administration will introduce the students and announce their accomplishments at the luncheon, college counselor Lisa Micele said in an email. The students will also be given the opportunity to share their summer plans as well as their college desinations and majors.
The Uni seniors will join representatives from other C-U high schools. The club invites local schools to select four of their seniors for the honor.
“I wasn't expecting it at all, but it's still pretty cool,” Hyman said. “I guess I'll find out more about it at the luncheon.”
Last year, Stephen Buzard, Nuole Chen, Colette DeJong, and Al Johnson received the Kiwanis Club honors.
