LGBT community and supporters to observe National Coming Out Day on Thursday

(WITH VIDEO) According to one national survey, 72 percent of Americans know or work with somebody who identifies themselves as gay or lesbian. On Thursday, the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender community and its straight supporters will mark National Coming Out Day. Here on campus, a rally will be held at the Quad. This is the 19th year for the event, which was established one year after a national march on Washington, D.C., during which the Project AIDS Memorial Quilt was unfurled publicly for the first time.

Girls volleyball: Illineks add to school record with win over DeLand-Weldon

Three days after breaking the school record for volleyball wins, the Uni girls got back to work Tuesday and produced yet another victory, raising their season mark to 19-9 overall, 8-2 in the East Central Illinois Conference. The varsity will be off until Tuesday, when they host conference leader Decatur Lutheran, but the JV will take part Saturday in a tournament here at Uni.

Boys soccer: Uni shuts out Normal Calvary Baptist, ends losing streak

Tuesday's 5-0 win over visiting Normal Calvary Baptist was the first victory for the Illineks since Sept. 18. Only one regular-season match remains before Uni enters the postseason on Friday. The boys will host Monticello on Thursday, then begin the Class A playoffs the next day against visiting Mt. Carmel.

Photo essay: Rehearsing for the fall play

When rehearsals begin, things get interesting. Check out these pictures from the rehearsals of Uni's 2007 fall play, "The Diary of Anne Frank." The play, directed by fine arts teacher Barbara Ridenour, is scheduled to run Nov. 1, 2, and 3 in the North Attic Playhouse. The first showing, on a Thursday, will begin at 7 p.m., while the Friday and Saturday showings will start at 7:30.
