Springfield Avenue construction gets under way

Traffic on Springfield Avenue in front of Uni is likely to become more congested than usual as construction work gets under way. Uni students won't be directly affected too much, but they need to factor in probable delays when they plan their commutes to school.

16 Uni musicians earn all-district honors

Practice paid off for Uni's new all-district musicians, who auditioned Monday at Bloomington High School. The district jazz festival is scheduled for Nov. 3 at Normal Community High School, followed two weeks later by the junior-senior district festival at Illinois State University. The top musicians at the high school level will go on to perform at the all-state music festival in Peoria in late January-early February.

Smart but lazy

Every day for the last few weeks, I have seen someone sleeping in class.

The sleeper usually receives envious stares from other yawning students.

I must admit, I am one of those students giving the envious looks. I physically cannot fall asleep in class, and on those days when I am yawning every two minutes, I sometimes wish I could throw my worries aside and just take a nap on my desk.
