Cinematography in photography: Jeff Wall

An artist who doesn't make any art for seven years seems a little eccentric to me.

Actually, scratch that thought.

An artist who doesn't make any art for seven years is incredibly intriguing to me.

Girls volleyball: Illineks win nail-biter, defeat Normal Calvary Baptist for 13th victory

Already down one game, the Uni girls found themselves tied at 24 with host Normal Calvary Baptist in the second set. If the Crusaders scored the next two points, they would win the match and sweep the season series with the Illineks. But Uni won the hard-fought contest 26-24, then pulled away in the decisive third game to take the match. The girls are now just two wins away from tying the school record for victories set last season.

FlatTop Grill — not just your usual restaurant

After school this afternoon, I joined several of my friends to try out the cuisine at FlatTop Grill, near Sixth and Green Streets. I was expecting steaks and fried meat everywhere. How very wrong I was.

Longing for language

Many students could tell you that, as a subbie, Uni students may take either French, German, Japanese, or Latin. That’s great: for the students who get their first choice of language. And what about those students who want to take another language, such as Spanish, but their grade restricts it?

College Board's National Hispanic Recognition Program honors three Uni students

Seniors Thomas Bozada, Erin Hayes, and Michelle Mehnert were among only 4,000 students selected by the NHRP out of 196,000 candidates nationwide. Since 1983 the program has identified outstanding Hispanic high school students and shared information about them with subscribing colleges and universities.

My favorite month

October is my very favorite month of the year for several reasons. One, of course, is Halloween. Another is my birthday (which was Tuesday, by the way … I'm 17 now!). The other is the colder weather that the month brings.

Boys soccer: Illineks drop fifth straight

St. Thomas More shut out Uni 7-0 Thursday at the DCR Soccer Complex. With the loss, Uni's record is now 8-8-1. Two regular-season games remain before the second-seeded Illineks begin their postseason. Both matches are at home next week: Normal Calvary Baptist visits on Tuesday and Monticello arrives on Thursday. The playoffs begin Friday with 15th-seeded Mt. Carmel coming to town.
