Uni to celebrate diversity with expanded cultural fair

Last May, Uni held an all-school cultural fair to recognize and learn more about the differences that make up the Uni community. This year's fair will take place Friday in Uni Gym from 10:55 a.m. to 12:55 p.m., more than doubling the time allotted for last year's event. The fair will include lunch, music groups, and booths. Other activities are planned throughout October to celebrate Multicultural Month.

Feeling tired?

Ever feel sleepy or drowsy at school?

You might as well carry a fat cat on your back

My school bag weighs three pounds more than my cat does, and my cat weighs 15 pounds. It seems like we have far too much pressure on our backs because there is so much pressure on our brains.

The marathon of heat

Let's play guess the event. Here are some hints: It was HOT, about 10,000 people didn't finish, more than 300 people were hospitalized, and one person died. While it may sound like I am describing a volcanic eruption, I am, in fact, describing the Chicago Marathon that took place this weekend.

Fish that fight

Fighting fish. Scientific name: Beta Splenden. And mascot of the Uni girls swim team. The swim team is known for its ever-changing name. Last year it was the Stingrays (which was very timely considering the untimely death of Steve Irwin). The year before that, the Pirates.

Grades suck

Grades. I hate them, and you probably do too. With the first quarter coming to an end, many students are probably panicking over some grade in some class or many grades in many classes.

From elementary school to high school, grades have added lots of unnecessary stress to my life. I say unnecessary, because I think grades are an unnecessary thing.

Harder, better, faster, stronger (?)

On Sunday the Chicago marathon (one of the world’s top five marathon races) was shut down, midway through, because of high heat and humidity. The record-setting temperatures of 88 degrees led to one fatality and about 50 hospitalizations.
