Last summer Alex Zhai won a silver medal as a member of the fifth-place U.S. team at the International Mathematical Olympiad. This year he's on track to represent the U.S. again. Zhai has just been invited to take the U.S. Math Olympiad exam, which will largely determine who makes the team.

Karen Cooley, currently with the U of I Office of Student Affairs, will succeed Marilyn Upah-Bant as Uni's head of fundraising and alumni relations.

Sophomore Joy Shapley tied Thursday's match against the host Sages with less than 5 minutes remaining. The deadlock ended Uni's eight-game losing streak against varsity competition, which stretched back to April 25 of last year.
