People and the 12 animals of the Chinese Zodiac

The rat, ox, tiger, rabbit, dragon, snake, horse, sheep, monkey, rooster, dog, and pig are the 12 animals of the Chinese Zodiac that are celebrated during the Chinese New Year. Each animal of the zodiac has its own unique set of attributes that I find are accurately applied to people born under the animal.

Spirit Week '08: Look Ugly Day (plus human pyramids and chariot races)

While Look Ugly Day was not much uglier than usual, lunchtime activities flourished during the popular human pyramid competition and “chariot races” in Uni Gym. Many students joined in the activities, encouraged by cheers from classmates and candy prizes from Student Council.

This year's Super Bowl is hyped just enough

Sports fan or not, there’s an event on Sunday that you’re guaranteed to hear about for weeks to come — the Super Bowl.

Aside from everything to do with the election, the Super Bowl is the biggest event of the year in this country. Yesterday’s media day alone drew thousands of journalists (but I had to go to class). The game is always surrounded by tons of hype, and this year that hype is justified.

Don't criticize what you don't understand

Boys basketball: Showdown with Decatur Christian will have to wait

Tonight's game in Decatur was canceled because of bad weather. Uni, which is seeking its fourth straight conference title, is 16-5 overall, 6-1 in the ECIC. Decatur Christian is 17-2, 8-0. Back on Jan. 4, the visiting Warriors handed the Illineks their only conference loss of the season, a 63-60 overtime defeat at Kenney Gym.

Addicted to shopping … online

Like many teenage girls, I love shopping.

Column: Do you really want to be remembered for that?

The reputations we create for ourselves often remain fixed even after we've left our old habits behind. Lizzy Warner asks: Why don't more students keep that in mind when they do things that will make themselves cringe when they look back a few years later?

Remember me

Uni is always noted as being a unique community: You get to be with relatively the same 60 people for five years. And to some extent this is good (you get to know each other better and are able to form “lasting bonds” with your classmates), but being around the same people for those five straight years also can result in a lot of tension.

Girls basketball: Illineks beat Decatur Christian, approach .500 as season winds down

Uni edged to within one game of .500 Monday night with a 61-45 victory over host Decatur Christian. The team has just one game left before the Class 2A playoffs begin next week: Thursday's Senior Night contest against Normal Calvary Baptist at Kenney Gym.
