Boys basketball: At full strength, Illineks take care of Fisher

Four seniors scored in double figures tonight as Uni upset host Fisher 71-60. Mike Renner, Chumar Williams, Isaac Radnitzer, and Austin Rundus combined for 61 points and 23 rebounds as the Illineks improved to 12-5 with the nonconference win. The victory was payback for the Bunnies' 60-42 defeat of Uni in the third-place game of the Hayden's Classic tournament on Dec. 29. In that contest, the Illineks played without leading scorer Renner, who was ill with stomach flu. Next up: Uni hosts PBL — the area's No. 5 team — Tuesday at Kenney Gym.

Girls basketball: Despite fast start, Uni falls to Donovan

A year after losing to Donovan by 43 points, Uni again faced the Wildcats. This time the Illineks remained very much in the contest until late in the fourth quarter when the visitors pulled away for a 47-34 victory this afternoon at Kenney Gym. Junior Rachel Skoza had another double-double, leading Uni with 11 points and 11 rebounds. The Illineks travel to Normal on Monday for a conference game against Calvary Baptist Academy.

Boys basketball: Uni holds DeLand-Weldon scoreless in second half of 70-25 win

After a relatively close first half, the Illineks shut out host DeLand-Weldon in the final two quarters to win by 45 points Friday night in a conference road game. Mike Renner led Uni with 18 points, followed by Austin Rundus with 17. Renner is now just 47 points away from tying older brother Al Renner as Uni's career-scoring leader.

Between two worlds: From Christmas to Three Kings Day

On Jan. 6 most children in America were done with their gift-giving holidays. Hanukkah, Christmas, even New Year's had passed. But in Hispanic countries the children had yet to receive their holiday gifts until that day. Jan. 6, Three Kings Day, is the prominent holiday celebrated in many Latin American cultures.
