Boys basketball: Illineks win by 29, Renner nets 21

Mike Renner scored 21 points with 9 rebounds and fellow senior Chumar Williams added 10 points and 10 assists to lead Uni to an 81-52 nonconference victory Thursday over host Georgetown Notre Dame de LaSalette. Uni will take its 16-5 varsity record to Decatur Christian on Tuesday in a showdown for the East Central Illinois Conference title.

Spring play '08: Auditions for "Much Ado About Nothing" to be held Monday, Tuesday

Shakespeare is in the air this spring, with the U of I, Parkland College, and the Station Theatre mounting productions of — or based on — his work. You can add Uni High to that list. This year's spring play will be the comedy "Much Ado About Nothing." Auditions are scheduled for Monday and Tuesday in the North Attic.

The second time around: A profile of Steve Epperson

Dr. Steve Epperson will serve as Uni High's interim director/principal through the spring of 2009. But how many students know much about him? Gargoyle senior editor Andrea Park decided to profile the man whose Uni roots go back more than 20 years. Not only is he an avid sports enthusiast, he's a leader who is putting Uni in a good position to hire an excellent administrator to fill his shoes. Read on to find out more about the man behind the desk, and his plans for the school.

Looking forward to Sunday morning

I walk into the building, immediately surrounded by the plush comfort of a warm silence. I can smell the faint scent of unleavened bread, and it combines with the scent of a recently vacuumed carpet to become what my nose recognizes as church. The sunlight falls in shafts revealing the undisturbed dust floating in the air, and I stand face to face with the pulpit.
