ICTM '08: Uni rolls through math regionals, ties for highest 3AA score in state

Despite being short-handed, Uni's math team swept first place in all categories of today's Illinois Council of Teachers of Mathematics regional contest at Parkland College. Not only that, but Uni tied for highest score in the state among schools in its division, 3AA. Uni now advances to the ICTM state finals, which will be held April 26 at the University of Illinois.

Idiocy to the max

It seems like everybody and their mother are going to or holding parties on the weekends. Not pool parties, or backyard barbecues, or pin-the-tail-on-the-donkey parties. These are
let’s-be-rebellious-and-get-really-drunk-and-high-because-our-lives-suck-so-much parties.

And I have a question.

Why the heck would anyone think that sounds like fun?

Column: My sanctuary

People like to have company. But, as Maritza Mestre writes: "There are times when I prefer solitude to mass amounts of chit-chatting and commotion. In those times I seek solace in the places that put me most at ease. There are tons of places I’ve been where I’ve found a certain place that let’s me escape, anywhere from libraries to ponds to playgrounds. One place I always seem to go is my room."

If you were looking for a tranquil place to end each Agora Day, you definitely wanted to steer clear of Room 308, where Guitar Hero class was holding court. For four days, budding rock stars tested their skills and showed off their chops — and Danny Ge was right there with them.
