Want some variety with your dance? Come to Uni this Saturday, and you can spend an hour playing video games before heading out onto the dance floor. It's part of the all-school St. Patrick's Day dance, sponsored by the freshman and sophomore classes. The dance will be held from 8 to 11 p.m. in the North Attic.

The human lightning rod

When I was in sixth grade, my best friend got braces. I thought they were really cool at the time, and I really wanted them. I didn’t care that they supposedly hurt, I didn’t care that you had to keep them on for a really long time — and which sixth grader cares about the money involved?

Return to Agora Days '08: Have YOU ever seen a penguin come to tea?

During Agora Days, Lauren Piester taught an improv class with fellow junior Sarah Lake-Rayburn. "It was a crazy week filled with lots of laughter, dancing, singing, and a little bit of yelling," she writes. "Turns out that Sarah and I are not extremely good at dealing with out-of-control shouts of 'Can I go next?' and 'Is it my turn yet?' or 'Can I please have another brownie?'"

Playing catch-up

When I walk around Uni, I see and hear students coughing and sneezing at every corner. Uni has legendary abilities of passing illnesses around. One day earlier this year it was rumored that 75 students were absent.

I believe that many sick students can be seen at Uni because they are afraid to miss school because of what they have to go through when they return.

Unbelievable

When it seems like you can't deal with things anymore, there is supposed to be a family member or a friend you can lean on.

With a nuclear family of six I don't usually run into any problems in that area.

However, I find it most unbelievable that when you are at your lowest point (or one of many) there is always someone else who needs to lean on you.

The talented Mr. Zhai: A brief Q&A with Alex Zhai, mathematician extraordinaire

[AUDIO included] Senior Alex Zhai recently scored a perfect 150 on the American Mathematics Contest 12 exam, and he barely broke a sweat. This is par for the course for Uni's resident math prodigy, who has represented the United States twice at the International Mathematical Olympiad. The Gargoyle catches up with Alex to get his reaction to the AMC results and find out his thoughts about a possible third IMO appearance.

Prescriptions

Every day we are accosted with endless prescriptions for how many calories to eat, how many hours of sleep to get, how much we should exercise, what products to buy, and essentially how to live our lives.
