The best of baseball: 2008

The first day of April means something different to baseball fans than to most ordinary people. To them, it’s a day to joke, laugh, and pull pranks. To us, well, we have baseball on our minds by now. So after I make my bold baseball predictions, there will be no one shouting “April Fool” — unless I turn out to be wrong in October.

Boys are different from girls. I know, shocking, isn’t it?

While the truth of this statement may seem blatantly obvious when first considered, there are many people in this world who would argue that women are inherently similar if not superior to men in an array of fields such as sports, science, and chess.

Yet we still think of these areas as typically male dominated.

Spring play diary '08: Can you do the Rufty Tufty?

Don't know what the Rufty Tufty is? The cast members of this year's spring play, Shakespeare's "Much Ado About Nothing," sure do. And so will you by the time the play ends its three-night run. The opening performance will be 7 p.m. Thursday at the North Attic Playhouse, followed by 7:30 p.m. shows Friday and Saturday. Lauren Piester offers the latest entry in our spring play diary.

Indoor track: Uni runners take 2nd, 3rd, 6th at IPTT Classic

The Illineks came up big at the Class A state indoor meet Friday in Bloomington, led by the second-place boys 4x800-meter relay team. Ruthie Welch finished third in the 800 run, and sprinter Tuli Bera took sixth in the 55 dash. Friday's meet was open only to the top track and field athletes in Class A.
