Girls basketball: Despite fast start, Uni falls to Donovan

A year after losing to Donovan by 43 points, Uni again faced the Wildcats. This time the Illineks remained very much in the contest until late in the fourth quarter when the visitors pulled away for a 47-34 victory this afternoon at Kenney Gym. Junior Rachel Skoza had another double-double, leading Uni with 11 points and 11 rebounds. The Illineks travel to Normal on Monday for a conference game against Calvary Baptist Academy.

Boys basketball: Uni holds DeLand-Weldon scoreless in second half of 70-25 win

After a relatively close first half, the Illineks shut out host DeLand-Weldon in the final two quarters to win by 45 points Friday night in a conference road game. Mike Renner led Uni with 18 points, followed by Austin Rundus with 17. Renner is now just 47 points away from tying older brother Al Renner as Uni's career-scoring leader.

Girls basketball: Skoza powers Uni over DeLand-Weldon with 16 points, 16 rebounds

Behind a dominating performance by 6-footer Rachel Skoza, the Illineks handily defeated conference opponent DeLand-Weldon 62-30 Thursday night. Uni is now 5-1 in the East Central Illinois Conference and 8-9 overall. Skoza has been on a tear recently, grabbing 52 rebounds in her last three games. The Illineks hope to reach .500 when they host Donovan at Kenney Gym on Saturday.
