Girls cross country: Despite small numbers, Illineks make impressive strides

The success of last year's girls cross country team was a hard act to follow, but the 2008 Illineks have made it to the Class 1A Paxton sectional meet, their last step before the Nov. 8 state finals at Peoria's Detweiler Park. Led by junior Elizabeth Russell and senior Elaine Gu, the girls have overcome several obstacles this year on their way to a solid season.

Trick-or-treating for a good cause: S4BW's Halloween Hunger Drive is back

From 6 to 8 p.m. on Halloween, students will trick-or-treat for canned goods in the Hessel Park neighborhood of Champaign. The items collected will be donated to the Eastern Illinois Foodbank. You don't have to be a member of S4BW to participate. Check inside for more info.

Prox card update: Testing for locked doors to begin

Have you seen people working on the Uni doors recently? After a one-month delay, the prox card system is finally picking up momentum. Faculty and staff members can now use their cards to get into the building after hours. A test of the system for students will take place beginning on Monday. Check inside for more details.

Girls volleyball: Judah Christian denies Illineks their school-record 21st win

The Illineks were taken aback Friday night as they lost to Judah Christian in the last match of the regular season. The loss prevented the girls from reaching their goal of 21 wins, which would have been a school record for season wins. They'll have one more chance when they face St. Thomas More in the playoffs on Thursday.

Girls cross country: Russell places second at regional meet, Uni grabs final sectional spot

Junior Elizabeth Russell was the runner-up at the Class 1A St. Joseph regional meet Saturday at Kickapoo State Park. Senior Elaine Gu joined Russell in the top 10 as they led the Illineks to a fifth-place finish, despite having only five healthy runners. The team earned the final spot to sectionals.
