Subfreshmen get visit from National Public Radio correspondent

[AUDIO included] This year's subfreshmen are working on an oral history project about the women's movement. They recently got some advice from a pro when National Public Radio correspondent Barbara Bradley Hagerty spoke to them about the responsibilities and privileges of journalism.

Alex Zhai advances to quarterfinal stage of U.S. Physics Team selection process

[AUDIO included] Alex Zhai has represented the United States twice at the International Mathematical Olympiad. Now he is a step closer to doing the same for the U.S. in physics. Zhai, a senior, was one of only 415 students from around the country — and one of only 30 from Illinois high schools — to advance to the quarterfinals of the U.S. Physics Team selection process. The students are competing for a chance to represent the United States at the 39th International Physics Olympiad this summer in Vietnam.

UFU Month begins: United for Uganda to host hip-hop benefit concert March 7

Keep March 7 free on your calendar. That's when UFU will take over the Independent Media Center for a hip-hop benefit concert featuring local recording artists Krukid, Cornbread, and Text. The show is open to all ages, and tickets cost $6. All proceeds will go toward Come Let's Dance, a grassroots organization in northern Uganda helping former child soldiers and their local communities. The event kicks off "UFU Month."
