Gargoyle guide to the week in entertainment, April 21-27

This week in entertainment is all about Chicago Sun-Times film critic Roger Ebert — specifically, the Urbana native's annual film festival, which marks its 10th year. Ebertfest '08 begins Wednesday night at the Virgina Theatre and concludes Sunday afternoon. Nothing else on the A&E menu is even close, although Laura likes this week's offerings in new albums and Sindha found a few local concerts worth checking out. The video game selection is decent, but as for the latest movie and DVD releases, you're better off going to the Virginia.

Poetry from the Gargoyle's mouth: War and patriotism edition

Entries sought for third annual Iris Chang and Peter Kolodziej writing contest

All Uni students are invited to enter the third annual Iris Chang and Peter Kolodziej Writing Awards competition. The contest will honor both fiction and nonfiction writing. A $100 check, a book prize, and a plaque will be awarded to the winner in each category. The contest is open to all Uni students, subfreshman through senior. Entry forms and information sheets are now available in the main office. The deadline is 4 p.m. Thursday, May 1.

Boys track: Taylor, 4x800 relay team win at Unity Invitational

Junior Malcolm Taylor continued to have a brilliant outdoor season, beating Unity state finalist Zebo Zebe in the 800 and anchoring the 4x800 relay team's comfortable win over St. Joseph-Ogden at Friday's Unity Boys Invitational. Field star Frankie McFarland placed second in the shot put and fifth in the discus throw as Uni finished eighth out of 13 teams overall.
