My sanctuary

Humans like to have company. It’s a natural fact; it’s why we do so many things together. There are times, though, when I prefer solitude to mass amounts of chit-chatting and commotion. In those times I seek solace in the places that put me most at ease.

Boots with the what?

Boots with the fur. The expression has become practically immortalized since Flo Rida sang about them in his hit song “Low.” Now everywhere I go, there they are like a fuzzy disease.

Senior trip is here, so why am I not as excited as I could be?

It is finally here, the weekend to surpass all weekends in craziness, Uni-ness, and lack of sleep: the senior trip to the Wisconsin Dells.

Secondary policemen

No matter who you are in life, there are always going to be rules. At the same time, though, not everyone abides by those rules.

Unofficial

Tomorrow is the University of Illinois’ Unofficial St. Patrick’s Day celebration, also simply known as “Unofficial.”

So how does one celebrate Unofficial? Well, U of I students celebrate by getting drunk.

For curious women

During Agora Days, I went to Taiwan to visit family, skipping the four days of student-taught classes. This meant that on the Friday before Agora started, when everyone else was looking forward to a fun week of no homework, I was anticipating a daunting 14-hour flight.

Björk attack

This is probably my favorite YouTube video clip:

Catching the flu

The flu has hit Uni quite hard this year. When you’re walking down the hallway or learning in class, there’s always someone coughing or blowing their nose.

According to the main office, 37 people were absent yesterday, 12 today, and an average of 20 people a day have been out for the past week.

I envy my cat

Cats don't have to do homework. They can sleep whenever they want. And when they break the house rules, the punishment is light, if at all existent. In other words, it's just the opposite of the life that I live.

Once

I went home sick on Monday during lunch. A good idea for two reasons: 1) I felt like crap. 2) I had time to watch “Once,” a wonderfully touching film.

Healthy competition (well, almost)

Competition shouldn’t be a strange concept to anybody who goes to Uni. As students, we engage in competition almost year round, whether it is athletic, intellectual, or even musical.

Free periods!?

Free periods can create difficult situations for me. Even after a long evening of homework, I often don't finish everything I was supposed to. So, I tell myself that I'll finish those last few math problems during my free period.

It sounds like a great solution, right?

Many times, it is. I'll finish the work, and still have a while to talk to friends.

Kudos to "There Will Be Blood"

I finally got around to seeing “There Will Be Blood,” and my mind was absolutely blown away. I’d like to make a little bit of an informal, quick kudos to the cast of this phenomenal film.

Gimme more

Agora Days changes every year. Subbie year I was the most excited about how wonderful and funny and interesting Agora would be, but when it actually came time to sign up for classes I was blessed with a schedule consisting of courses such as Certamen I, which was a class for students taking Latin … and I was in French.

Letters from college

As most members of my sophomore class can agree, and probably those from the junior class, colleges send a lot of letters. Their plan is to berate me ceaseless e-mails and letters that tell me that Ball State University really is for me.
