[Correction: The original version of this article left out the following Uni students who also competed in this contest: senior Stephen Buzard, junior Beckaa Wallig, and sophomore Claire Johnson. We apologize for the omissions and thank Beckaa for bringing the mistake to our attention.]

Johann Sebastian Bach, Antonio Vivaldi, Arcangelo Corelli, Georg Philipp Telemann: four composers out of many who wrote during European music's baroque period, which lasted from 1600 to 1750.

Their music and others' will be performed Saturday at the Young Baroque Artists Competition, sponsored by the Baroque Artists of Champaign-Urbana (BACH). It will take place in the Smith Memorial Room of Smith Memorial Hall (also known as Smith Music Hall), 805 S. Mathews Ave., Urbana.

Uni students who will perform in this competition are seniors Angelina Liang (violin) and Mo Kudeki (cello), junior Christine Cheng (piano and violin), sophomore Linda Song (violin), and freshman Daniel Borup (violin).

The competition is for anyone 14 to 18 years of age, not attending college, who lives or takes music lessons in Champaign County.

Performances for the competition will begin at 9 a.m. and end at 1 p.m.

Contestants will be expected to prepare one or more pieces or movements composed between 1600 and 1750, not to exceed 15 minutes in length. According to the contest rules, music must be sung by the type of voice or played on the instruments for which it was composed.

Winners will be notified by mail a week after the performance, and they will receive a cash prize as well as an invitation to perform at a BACH concert. The winners' concert is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on April 20 at Verde Gallery, 17 E. Taylor St., Champaign.
