One final movie night: "Hard Problems," featuring Alex Zhai

So it's Thursday night, and all your finals are over. What do you do? How about coming to Uni for one final movie night? It's free, and this time the film co-stars a Uni student: senior Alex Zhai. The movie is "Hard Problems: The Road to the World’s Toughest Math Contest," and it features Alex and the other members of the 2006 U.S. International Math Olympiad Team. You don't need to be a math whiz to enjoy the true story of six high school students as they get ready to compete against their peers from 90 other countries. The movie, which lasts 82 minutes, will be shown in Room 109 beginning at 7 p.m.

Film review: "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull"

Indiana Jones has returned after almost 20 years. The archaeologist/adventurer is now fighting Communists instead of Nazis, but the plotlines are as over the top and addictively thrilling as ever. Lauren saw the film on opening weekend, and she brought back this review.

Poetry from the Gargoyle's mouth: "The Hollow Men"

This is it. As all good things must come to an end, so must "Poetry from the Gargoyle's mouth." This is our very last entry but definitely not our very least. In fact, we have chosen a classic story about endings by T.S. Eliot. "The Hollow Men" is worth its weight in gold and a definite must-read. We hope you enjoyed our public poetry project and that you will all continue reading great poetry.

CD review: Nine Inch Nails, "The Slip"

Nine Inch Nails released their seventh album, "The Slip," on May 5 (entirely online and at no charge), taking Gargoyle senior editor Carl Zielinski by surprise. While he found some areas that definitely needed improvement, he feels that everyone should still take a listen. "After all," says Carl, "you can't beat the price."

Poetry from the Gargoyle's mouth: "It's the end of the world"

We're nearly there. The end of school is fast approaching and the smell of summer vacation is nearly overwhelming. To hasten the arrival of the days where homework is nonexistent and sitting by a pool slurping on a fruity drink is the only thing on the to-do list, we decided to devote our last weekly edition of "Poetry from the Gargoyle's mouth" to poems about endings. We give you R.E.M.'s "It's the End of the World." Enjoy!

"Traveling Soldier" is definitely a song with poetic lyrics and an even more poetic story about love lost. Poetry from the Gargoyle's mouth: "Theme Music to a Drive-by"

Indie rock not your style? Looking for intellectual and though-provoking music? Today's selection might just be your cup o' tea. Poetry from the Gargoyle's mouth: "Details of the War"

Enjoying the poetry in a set of lyrics is hard to do without the music, but the band Clap Your Hands Say Yeah manages to write a song that comes quite close to a poem. A series of images and objects sets up the reader/listener for a rather astounding turn at the end that leaves one wondering just what exactly is meant.
