URBANA — On Sept. 2, the musical group Veretski Pass paid a visit to Uni's Interrelated Arts class, talking about the history of klezmer music and playing a sample for the subfreshmen and whoever else stopped by to hear.

Taking their group name from the Veretski mountain pass in the Ukraine, these klezmer (traditional Yiddish/ Eastern European) musicians were in town to play at the Allerton Barn Music Festival, and were invited to visit the school by librarian Frances Harris.

Veretski Pass features Cookie Segelstein on violin and viola, Stuart Brotman on bass, basy (cello), and baraban, and Joshua Horowitz on tsimbl (hammered dulcimer or cymbalom) and 19th-century accordion.
