DVD review: "3:10 to Yuma"

Starring Russell Crowe and Christian Bale, "3:10 to Yuma" shows that Westerns still have plenty of life left in them, according to Gordon Ruan. Down-on-his-luck rancher Dan Evans (Bale) agrees to escort captured outlaw Ben Wade (Crowe) to the 3:10 train to Yuma, where he will stand trial for his crimes. But getting there is easier said than done.

DVD review: "I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry"

Thanks to the vagaries of the New York City bureaucracy, widowed firefighter Larry Valentine can't make his children the beneficiaries of his pension unless he can persuade best friend Chuck to become his domestic partner. The two lifelong heterosexuals soon learn what it's like to be the targets of mindless prejudice. Just another crude Adam Sandler movie, or is there some redeeming value? Maritza Mestre weighs in.

DVD review: "Amistad"

In 1839 a group of Africans who had been kidnapped from their native land rebelled against their captors on the Spanish ship La Amistad. Taken to the United States, they faced trial for their actions. Steven Spielberg's 1997 film "Amistad" recreates this true case. But to Rachel Harmon, the movie fails to do justice to the Africans who were the true heroes of the story.

DVD review: "Curse of the Golden Flower"

Zhang Yimou's latest martial arts epic was released on DVD last week after bringing in a modest $6.5 million at the box office last year. Andrew Lovdahl applauds the film's visual beauty, but has some complaints as well. Find out his verdict inside.

DVD review: "Flyboys"

The First World War hasn't received much attention from Hollywood in recent years. This story about World War I combat pilots was a notable exception. Deren Kudeki takes a look at the new DVD version of the film.

Although originally released in theaters in 1995, the Japanese anime film "Whisper of the Heart" has only been available on DVD in the U.S. since March. Produced by the same studio that made "Spirited Away," the movie tells the story of two young students who learn what it takes to pursue their dreams. Reviewer Yuzuko Nakamura gives us her verdict. DVD review: "Paradise Now"

Nominated for an Oscar as best foreign-language film, "Paradise Now" gives a face to all of the suicide bombings you hear about in the ongoing Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Following two Palestinian friends over a few days, the controversial movie has been accused of sympathizing with the bombers. Sam Smyth recently saw the film, out now on DVD, and offers his views.
