Team Justice assembles

Many Uni students probably already know about the boys cross country phenomenon known as "team justice," or formally known as the treat squad. While to most people, it may just look like fun and games, there is a deeper camaraderie involved.

First, let me list off a few nicknames: Turtle, Buck Wild, Nate Justice, Desert Eagle, and the Duke of Duty. While some nicknames are used more than others, a few have really stuck. During practice, I've rarely heard teammates not call Ziran Shang "Turtle" or Nathan Smith "Nate Justice."

The Treat Squad was formed last year during one of our many long runs together. Names were given for different reasons, like physical features, personalities, or specific events.

Team Justice is now based out of the Tower of Power, a local parking garage. The Tower acts as a halfway point on our runs, or the place where we make our super-powered plans.

Team Justice affects our lives outside of cross country practices. Last year there were many "vicious battles" with a rival group known as the Thundercats.

Uni High’s boys cross country teams are usually overshadowed by the highly successful girls teams. Having this special group is a way to bring us some recognition, at least around the school. What also might bring us some recognition is that this weekend, with Team Justice reunited after injuries, illnesses, and ACTs, we will be trying to make a name for ourselves at the Spartan Invitational.

Oh, and if you are wondering, I’m the Buttless Boy Wonder.
