Why doesn’t anyone go to PE anymore?

About 30 people are in each PE class. On Monday during sports class, 11 students were on the court. About 20 other students sat in the bleachers doing homework.
Uni’s no-cut policy allows any student to play for a sports team without worrying about being cut. This year, it seems many more students have taken advantage of the rule, choosing to petition out of PE as well.
The last two years, PE classes were much more full than they are this year. As a subbie, there were fewer sports to play — only cross country, basketball, and track — and fewer opportunities to petition out. If my memories from last year are correct, we had a few more people in class than we do now.
Maybe it only seems this way because there are more sports in fall than there are in winter or spring. After all, five of the 10 sports at Uni occur during the fall. About two-thirds of all Uni students are athletes, so naturally there are more fall athletes than athletes of any other season.
PE class has stayed the same, although it is less attended. We still have alternating sports and fitness classes. Workouts in fitness are rigorous as always. We continue to wear the dreaded pinnies while playing Ultimate in sports. There’s just not as many people in the class.
I think it’s great that so many people are taking advantage of the no-cut policy (though most would be good enough to play anyway). Organized sports are a great way to build team spirit, get to know other people, and, of course, get better at one’s sport.
I’m a little bit lonely in PE, though.
