The Uni High basketball season is quickly approaching. In a little over three weeks, Kenney Gym will be filled with bouncing balls, squeaking shoes, and a ton of freshman who don’t know what they’re in for.
That’s OK though, right?
It’s Uni. We have a no-cut policy. That’s what makes basketball pretty laid-back. Right?
Well, I have a problem with that mentality.
Just because we aren’t expected to be competitive does not mean our basketball teams shouldn’t function like Central’s, Urbana’s, or Centennial’s. At the UHGB team meeting earlier this week, I got a sense that this year’s team will strive to be just that: competitive.
It’s true that most Uni athletes hadn't played sports before they came here. But, with a lot of hard work, why couldn’t we be better?
If you know me at all, you know that I’m extremely excited about basketball season this year. It would be great if Uni could break some of the stereotypes that have stuck with us for years. (Please, no more “Sine, sine, cosine sine! 3.14159!”) I have a feeling this season UHGB and UHBB will do just that. Furthermore, taking a look at the next few years, Uni basketball will be at its best this year.
So for all you Uni ballers out there, get excited! In a month we’ll be playing the best sport in the world, so lace up and get ready!

I believe that spells
I believe that spells "lame."
agreed, lauren. we can be
agreed, lauren. we can be good at sports and still retain our unique nerdiness, rach. i dont see a problem with that.
besides, you shouldnt be so picky. yeah, maybe people are cheering, "Benito, Benito, Benito Mussolini!" but at least they're there and cheering you on.
exactly.
yes. you should not think so much about the cheer itself, but more about the fact that people are there supporting you. who cares if we get made fun of? that's uni. that's what we do. =D
and that's more than can be
and that's more than can be said for many people
