Are you hungry but calorie conscious? Are you too lazy to make food? Are you in proximity to a computer? Go to Jimmy John's online and reap the benefits!
On the Jimmy John's Web site, you can customize your sandwich with up to 25 different toppings. The site also gives you the nutrition facts of your order and updates it with every topping/item you add or subtract. With a few button-clicks and a quick telephone call, your tasty lunch order is on its way to your belly. Mmm!
When I heard about this technological advancement of the sandwich shop industry, I let out a yelp of excitement and amazement shortly followed by a pensive inquiry; under what conditions has it become necessary for people to count every single calorie they consume?
America's weight problem is nothing new, but are calorie calculators at fast-food shops really going to contribute to a solution?
It is a positive thing that food chains are theoretically making an effort to change the unhealthy eating habits that are prevelant in contemporary society, but it is important to ask how effective and useful these efforts are and to note that it should be the job of the consumer to be aware of the nature and amount of food they eat. Obesity is not going to go away because we can put fewer tomatoes on our Jimmy John's sandwiches.
