My PSAT experience
Published: Wednesday, October 17, 2007 - 8:01pm
I, along with fellow sophomores, experienced my first PSAT this morning at the highly air-conditioned Park Inn.
It was nothing like I had expected.
Seeing that the last standarized test I took was the SSAT, I've kind of forgotten what it's like. But, even if I had remembered the SSAT, it wouldn't have helped much.
Before the PSAT, I had never taken a standardized test whose sections took so long to complete. I barely had any time to go back and check my answers, if I even had any.
I wouldn't say that the PSAT was exactly hard, it was just kind of a shock; like when there were 15 minutes left for a section and I wasn't even half way done yet. During my standardized testing when I was in elementary and middle school, I would always finish early and have time to check my answers two or three times even though I usually only did it once.
The vocabulary section was another thing that I wasn't really expecting. My dad has been telling me since the beginning of time that my vocabulary sucks. I never took him seriously until I stared at the second question of the first vocab section.
Also, I would just like to mention that during the writing section, my toes started to go numb from the full-blast air conditioning. So if I end up doing horribly on that section, I'm going to blame the subzero conditions.
On the plus side, I did get out of half a day of school.
So even though I froze my toes off while answering questions about the shyness of Mr. Rogers and how much money a high school made from selling candy bars, it felt nice to know that I would not have to face this test again for another year, and that next year I would know to bring a hoodie and some socks.
