No, I haven't lost all of my spelling skills — I've just been visiting the lolcats Web site too much. Reading lolcats is a great way to pass the time. Lolcats are cute. Sometimes they are not cats at all, but giraffes and squirrels or even hedgehogs.

Lolcats come into being when a perfectly innocuous picture of a cat is taken, and is given a caption that makes it absolutely hilarious. A proper lolcat picture is also characterized by improper spelling and grammar, which gives the picture a sense of utter cuteness.

There are also inside jokes in the lolcat community that will resurface time after time: One is the "Ur doin it wrong" type of lolcat. Another is the "Invisible" type of lolcat.

Every so often, you will run into the mention of a "cheezburger" on lolcats — it has become common knowledge that every cat would love nothing better. In fact, the Web site is named icanhascheezburger.com. Other common things that you might come across in the cheezburger world are "Ceiling Cat," "Monorail Cat," or "Teh bukket."

Don't think, though, that lolcats is purely for mindless entertainment. On the contrary, the site has provided the world with a good deal more onomatopoeias, the best of which is the repetition of the word "nom," which indicates devouring. Lolcats also has an entire "Mitosis" category for the biology people!
