Collateral News has won over my heart … and attention
Published: Thursday, October 4, 2007 - 11:49am
I first heard about Collateral News through a Facebook group that asked members of the online community to sign a petition for the Jena 6. The group gave a link to a YouTube video produced in Philadelphia by an independent weekly news show, Collateral News.
All it took was the click of a play button, and suddenly my addiction began.
Collateral News focuses on stories that get little to no media coverage, such as the Jena 6 trial, and hands their viewers facts that other corporate media news shows sometimes choose to avoid.
Collateral News also comes up with interesting theses regarding these obscure news stories, and always supports them with evidence.
What do I love about Collateral News?
They show, not tell.
The footage feels raw and, because Collateral News is independent (funded only by its producers), viewers never feel like they are seeing the news with metaphorical tunnel vision, since they know for certain that these issues aren’t being tip-toed around to avoid losing funds.
On top of that, I have trust in Collateral News. It just feels good to know that there is news out there that isn’t filtered, and it can be accessed as easily as clicking on a public YouTube link.

"Democracy Now!"
Thanks for the recommendation and link, Sindha. Another great source of news and perspective is "Democracy Now!," hosted daily by my personal hero, Amy Goodman. You can watch it or listen to it anytime online. If you're driving between 4 and 5 p.m., tune your radio to WEFT 90.1 FM.
If you want to sample some truly hardcore, fearless journalism, check out the work of the great Al Giordano, the best investigative reporter no one's ever heard of, at his site Narco News.
End of commercial.
