So many books

After having spent more than 10 years in school, I have developed a deep appreciation for textbooks. At times, they cleared up what a bad teacher was trying to get across. Other times, they supplemented what I was doing in class.

After elementary school, I felt like I had experienced textbooks to their fullest. But I was wrong. Before coming to Uni, I had never lost a textbook. In fact, I had never heard of anyone else losing a textbook.

At other public schools, the students were provided with the textbooks and paid a fine for losing it. I didn’t see these books as actually being mine, so I was a lot more careful with them. At Uni, students buy their own books. Since I am the actual owner of these books, they don’t feel as special to me. I tend to toss them aside until I need them.

So far, I’ve lost about three books. All of them happen to be math books. I still haven’t found two of them. From the numerous lost e-mails that people send, I can tell I'm not the only one.

Overall, I would say Uni has many good ways to reunite lost books with their owners. With e-mails and the lost-and-found, it’s pretty hard to lose something and never see it again. That is, unless somebody has "borrowed" another person's books.

The only way to prevent people from "borrowing" books is to always keep them with you or in your locked locker. I know, locking lockers is very hard because you don't know whether you'll be able to open them again. But it's worth the sense of security.

Another thing to do is to write your name in your books. It's easy to forget, and when the book is lost, no one knows whom it belongs to.

So what are you waiting for? Get out there and lock your lockers. And tell me if you find any of my math books.
