I SAT for four-and-a-half hours
Published: Monday, March 3, 2008 - 10:03pm
Last Saturday I took my first step for preparing for college: the SAT.
And frankly, my SAT experience was underwhelming.
First off, I have a few complaints. Not only does it begin at 8 a.m., the closest place that was available when I registered was in Mattoon. Mattoon is an hour away from my house, meaning I had to get up well before the sun.
I have trouble sitting through an hourlong class period at school, let alone a four-and-a-half hour standardized test. I endured seven 25-minute sections, two 20-minute sections, and one 10-minute section. After every two or three sections, there was a five-minute bathroom break.
The thing is, this test could have been cut in half and still would have covered the same material.
The first section was an essay. Easy. But then math, followed by English, followed by more math, and then more English. It was extremely repetitive, making me feel like all I need to be good at to get into college is math, vocabulary, sentence structure, and how to analyze a few paragraphs.
To my surprise, the SAT was very easy.
I finished each section with about 10 minutes to spare. I was bored out of my mind. Throughout the last few sections, I had to push myself to focus and not say, Screw this, this is pointless!
I understand the SAT is a reasoning test, yet most of the problems seemed like common sense. Standardized tests like this could not possibly ever reflect a student's intellectual ability, which after all, is what colleges are looking for, right?
So, there's my rant about the SAT. It was lame. There you have it. (Still, I hope my score reflects my confidence …)
Now I get to take the ACT in April, which I so enthusiastically registered for this morning. Woo-hoo. That's my enthusiasm for you folks, right there.

It's amazing how prescient William Shakespeare was. Everyone should come out and see the spring play!
Yes! Spring play!
I agree with Mr. Russell!
I signed up as soon as I
I signed up as soon as I could and took to at Siebel that Saturday. A timely sign up would have prevented a 50 minute drive.
I was definitely late
I was definitely late signing up, but Rachel signed up early, so I don't think that necessarily had anything to do with our options.
