"...that's what the reality of high school is -- trying to crack the admissions formula. Trying to play the game. The goal of high school today is to become someone and something that looks good, sounds good, reads good, and fits inside a manila envelope."
I just read that over right now and I might have confused some people.I don't actually believe the point of high school is to "crack the admissions formula." I was being sarcastic and facetious.
However, sometimes (every rainy day or two) I feel annoyed. I feel annoyed because everyone is so concerned about what looks good on a resume. I get annoyed that people are doing just enough to get an 'A', and nothing more.
Most of all, I'm annoyed that this is all par for the course.
It's normal for high school students to grade grub and resume pad, as if it's part of the job description. It's gotten to the point where high school has almost become a game called, "Get into College!". You've probably heard the expression, "You have to be good at playing 'the game'," when talking about college admissions.
Uni is supposed to be one of the few schools where people come to learn for "the joy of learning". Sometimes I just don't see that.
In some ways I feel bad for our generation of high school students. While some, like Kumars and Shara, are bold and enlightened enough to realize that high school is only for the purpose of learning and growing, most of us, whether we realize it or not, or better said are in a state of denial or not, are caught up in a rat race. It's really quite sad.
