MEMBERS OF THE current freshman class will vote for their class officers on Tuesday, May 15, during David Stone's biology class. The positions open for election are president, vice president, secretary/treasurer, and Student-Faculty Advisory Committee representative. Candidates were required to submit biographies of themselves. The Gargoyle is publishing these bios with permission from Student Council without any editing alterations for grammar, spelling, style, etc. The biographies of the candidates are presented in alphabetical order.

CANDIDATES FOR PRESIDENT

COSTA CANGELLARIS

I'm Costa Cangellaris and I'm running for President of the Uni High Freshmen [sic] class. I'm pretty laid back and I listen to the opinions of our students. The past year hasn't been too exciting and there hasn't been a male officer. So, I propose to fix this fatal error and run for president. Vote for me and all of your wildest dreams will come true. Remember if u can dream it, you can do it!

RACHEL HARMON

I really enjoy being president, I enjoy being able to make things happen and organize events, but more importantly I take being in student council seriously. I think that this makes me a great candidate for president. There are also a few things that I would like to improve, like the communication between studwent council and the students, I think that sometimes people forget that student council is for the students, not just an exclusive organization to talk about students. As like other candidates, I can promise to make events entertanining and pertinent to the students. When I was president subby year I didn't really knwo what I was doing or what student council was really about; all I knew was that I would like to work and help represent our class. This year a few things have changed. I know how dissappointing it is when you don't meet the promises that you make, and most importantly I know what Student Council looks like from a different perspective. With this newfound knowledge I promise to serve as a better president, if elected. I am willing to put in lots of time and effort into making sophmore year as enjoyable as possible. I hope you vote for me.

CANDIDATES FOR VICE PRESIDENT

SIAN BEST

Hello, I'm Sian Best….which I guess you might know by now, but if not ….I'm the kid with the accent! Anyway…if I was elected vice president I would do my best to truly represent your views, support the president, help the secretary treasurer, and fulfil my other duties as vice-president to the full. I would be fully dedicated to the task at hand, and I would be open to opinions from other people. I would listen to you guys, and bring your views and thoughts into the meetings, so that your voices are heard and represented. I would work hard to make sure the dances were more fun and exciting, raise more money for our class with enjoyable and interesting fundraisers, and arrange more class trips.

LINDA LY

My name is Linda Ly, and I am re-running for the vice-president position. I have been in office for 2 years, and have used this office to its fullest potential. I have also taken into account the classes' ideas, while planning events and worked well with the other officers. I have the determination and leadership skills to continue this position well.

Next year will be much more work than the previous two years, which is a reason why someone who has experience should help take care of the responsibilities. Next year is the year to raise money for Prom.

Fundraising opportunities will be a lot easier to plan, if someone who has already planned some, does it again. Also, looking at the success of this year's sophomore trip to Six Flags, the possibility of a trip of our own seems realistic. I'll try to make the class' ideas reality.

BRITTANY SCHEID

Hey, my name is Brittany and yes, I am running for Vice. First of all, I think that this position is a very important position as it supports and advises the president. If I were Vice, I truly believe that I could help make a difference with our class. I think that we need new fundraising ideas other than eating contests! Besides financially, I feel that as a Vice president I would need to be more open to our class and I would try to get more feedback via surveys and such. I hope to see you next year as Vice!

JACK SNYDER

I'm Jack Snyder and I'm running for vice president. I'm relaxed, and I'd listen to other people's ideas. I'd make are class exciting and the greatest one ever. Vote for me, you'll be glad you did.

CANDIDATES FOR SECRETARY/TREASURER

KATHERINE ALLEN

Hi, I'm Katherine Allen. No, I do not want to be the “decider”. I do not want to be the “commander guy” either. I would like to serve as our class secretary/treasurer. I am dedicated to Uni and proud be to part of the class of 2010. I am (like most members of our class) motivated, responsible, and organized. I am, however, also happy to sacrifice my free time to work together with the other class officers to make 2007/2008 a really excellent year. Our class lost money at the spring fling - we have to make up for it. We need your input. I think there should be greate class participation in the decision making process - you tell the class officers what you want - we make it happen. Vote for me, Katherine Allen.

DANNY GE

My name is Danny Ge and I want to be your secretary-treasurer. I am very organized and responsible with money. You all know this from classes that you share with me. I never lose assignments and never turn them in late. Other people may run for student council as a joke but I assure you that I will take my office seriously and try my best to represent our class.

ISAURE HOSTETTER

Hey fellow freshmen, I'm Isaure (I should hope you all know my name by now; even if you can't say it right). I'm running for Secretary-Treasurer. If (hopefully when) I'm elected, I'm going to try and organize lots of fun things (like another Allerton or something like that) for our class to do. In order to raise money for fun things, I think that we should be more organized as to fund-raisers and other such activities. I think that I'm a good person for this job because I'm organized (yes, it's true! I can be organized, don't judge me by the state of my locker!) and I'm good with people in general. Thanks!

MARITZA MESTRE

My name is Maritza Mestre and I am running for reelection for the position of Secretary/Treasurer. If reelected, I will continue to work hard to help plan our class events so that they will be successful. I am excellent for this position because I take the initiative to get things done with results that are impeccable and realistic. Next year I would continue to encourage everyone to participate in our class events. I feel that it is important for the entire class to voice their opinions so that the school year is fun for everyone! As Secretary/Treasurer I would continue to be open to all ideas and value every thought and suggestion that is put forth. I am dependable, trustworthy, organized, and serious in everything I do, which is very important in roles of leadership. I enjoy taking an active role in our class and helping it to flourish, as I did this past year as Secretary/Treasurer. The knowledge and experience I gained this year will benefit our grade next year. Events and fundraisers that many of you attended this year for Freshman Class were planned by me and your other student representatives. With my help, our class was able to have more events, trips, and fundraisers than ever before and I aspire to continue my role as Secretary/Treasurer so that our class can do more than ever in the year to come.

ELIZABETH RUSSELL

I'm Elizabeth Russell and I'm running for Secretary Treasurer. As secretary treasurer, I can well represent our class by making intelligent decisions, planning events (i.e. dances, X week) well, keeping things organized, and strengthening communication between the class and class officers. I'll attack issues pertaining to money by organizing effective fundraisers, and then helping to make decisions to use the money wisely (perhaps not spending 300$+ on some an inconspicuous disco ball). For instance, there has been some mention of recreational class trips, so I could definitely help in trying to organize these events. I will listen to the ideas of the class and get them voiced during student council. In other words, I will try my hardest to get what the class wants as fast and efficiently as possible.

CANDIDATES FOR SFAC REPRESENTATIVE

LAURA DRIPPS

I'm Laura Dripps and I want to be your SFAC representative for sophomore year. I think that I am qualified for the position, having served for the past two years on SFAC. I even know what it stands for. I also believe that my voting record has shown that I will always try and represent what our class wants. When people emailed me that they wanted an elected honor council, I didn't vote for the let's-just-randomly-pick-people method that the rest of the committee approved. When the SSO applied for $720 to bribe er… encourage next year's subbies to go to meetings by buying them pizza, I voted against that too (To be fair, everyone was against that).

Some new stuff that I want to bring up for next year would be little things like asking the teachers to give students a chance to fix their slipping grades before mailing “grade reports” to parents. If that's not really convincing you, I hope you'll vote for me because I have a lot of enthusiasm for SFAC, and I like finding handbook loopholes.

ERIC FRITZSCHE

I am eric fritzsche and i would like to run for SFAC i would be great at it, vote for me.

Diana Liu
Hi, everyone! You probably either know me as “the wacky crazy moosius” or the “really quiet girl.” Only a select few have seen my dedicated self, the one who works at frenzied speeds to get quality work done. That is one of the reasons why I am running for SFAC this year. I hope to put my energy to good use in a way that will address not only the concerns of our class, but the entire school. I am diligent and more than willing to
assist in resolving Uni's conflicts. I can also bring fresh ideas to the meetings and (most importantly, in some opinions) I am not afraid to work with Kovacs. Uncle Sam wants you to vote for Diana!
