The positions open for election are president, vice president, secretary, and Student-Faculty Advisory Committee representative. Candidates were required to submit biographies of themselves. The Gargoyle is publishing these bios with permission from Student Council without any editing alterations for grammar, spelling, style, etc. The biographies of the candidates are presented in alphabetical order.
CANDIDATES FOR PRESIDENT
RANNY MA
My name is Ranny Ma and I am running for class president. Next year we are going to spend our last year together as seniors; it will be a special year filled with memories. I will do my best as president to capture those memories and give them to you.
The years we have spent together will all come together. There will be the senior trip and graduation among other special events. Experience will be an extremely important trait. There will be no time to get acclimated. I have been class vice president for two years and I know how things work. There will be absolutely no wasted time or lackluster effort.
I believe I am the most qualified for as a dedicated and devoted class president. In addition, I will spare nothing in making next year special. I will take full responsibility of our last year together and try to make it as memorable as possible.
I trust in you to make the right decision. Vote Ranny Ma.
MIKE RENNER
Most of you already know me, but there may be some of you out there who haven't been properly acquainted with yours truly and this is for them. I've been an active member of the Uni community ever since the first day I walked in the school subbie year. I've taken part in eating contests and Milk Chug Challenges during my career here. I believe that we are supposed to enjoy our high school experience and I have the attributes that if elected can help us all have a good time.
In my years at Uni I have had a vast array of achievements in not only academics, but extracurricular activities as well. I'm an accomplished mathematician and have won mulltiple medals and awards in the past few years. I'm also good in the sciences where my subbie year my group won the bridge building contest. You may not have known those academic achievements, but you have probably heard of my athletic ones. I've played varsity basketball, baseball, and soccer ever since my freshman year. I am third on the all time career scoring list in basketball with 1,071 points and have the second most home runs in Uni history. I pitched Uni to its first ever regional victory my freshman year and was in the goal when the final whistle blew in our victory of Central this past fall.
I've done my best to create a tradition here at Uni and want to leave Uni High better than I found it. Vote for me, Mike Renner, for senior class president.
ARAN YOO
Hello, I'm Aran and, as your class underwear defender, girls soccer fanatic, fellow fitness runner, and finally just as your plain giddy peer that happens to be undersized, I want you to vote me as your class president.
I am qualified for this position because in addition to my definite enthusiasm, I am able to offer many fresh ideas for a delightful last year of high school. My new ideas include additional class trips such as a class camping adventure and more.
Also, a class president cannot work exclusively with his or her other officers. Knowing, and willing to know, many different people personally, I will genuinely seek and accept an individual opinion and or even the unsound contemplation in order for a better informed Student Council.
Finally, in the past years that I have been elected, I have organized with my fellow classmates, Shivani and Andrea, winter formal, the balloon extravaganzas during X-Week, several class parties and others. This year, as a future senior, I have become somewhat wiser, and most definitely more determined in order to come back with better and clearer cut ideas and tactics.
For a unique and outrageous senior year, vote for Aran Yoo.
CANDIDATES FOR VICE PRESIDENT
CHRISTOPHER NIXON
I am running for Vice President of the class of 2008. Although I have never been on student council, I have leadership experience through my Boy Scout troop and my church. If elected, I will do my best to serve my class by planning the best senior trip, and by organizing class fundraisers and movie nights. I will listen to your ideas, and try to make them become realities.
ISAAC RADNITZER
My name is Isaac Radnitzer and I am running for senior Vice President. Senior year is a very important year in the high school experience, and I think I would do a great job of helping making senior year your best year of high school. As Vice President, I would do my best to make sure every member of the senior class gets the most out of student council. I will encourage new ideas, new activities and more student participation in student council; I am dedicated to letting you get your ideas for clubs, class activities, and senior trip realized.
Although I have no previous experience in student council, I am a fast learner, and I have had plenty of leadership experience. I believe I can use my ties with the entirety of the senior class, leadership ability, and hard work to make a difference in student council. Having attended Uni High for four years, I realize the kind of personal interaction, energy, and passion that is necessary for good leadership at Uni, and I will contribute all of these to the position of Vice President. I believe that teamwork between all members of student council is essential to efficient and effective leadership and I will bring all of those components to student council. I think that our class officers in the past have been excellent and I can't wait to bring my own ideas and talents to continue that tradition. Thank you for your time; I will enjoy working for you if I am elected.
ZOË SCHEIN
Hey, I'm Zoë Schein, running for Vice President of the Senior class (2008). I think I'm a pretty good choice for this position. My reasoning is threefold. First, when I commit to something, I follow through. I'm extremely dedicated and reliable, and if elected I would concentrate the full force of that energy on turning the wants and needs of next year's senior class into reality. Second, I think I could bring an element of creativity and “thinking outside the box” to our Student Council. Most of our class has better things to do than sit around for half an hour trying to come up with ideas for class activities and what have you. If you elect me as your VP, I could come up with ideas to shake even the most disaffected youth into a frenzy of enthusiasm. Finally, I'm a pretty nice chick, and I'm perfectly approachable and fairly in tune with the workings of our class. As VP, I would use that to gauge the general ‘08 attitude. Therefore, I'd be able to work in the best interests of our class as a whole, and make everybody's senior year as enjoyable as possible.
In conclusion, I'm pretty cool, you should probably vote for me. (Also, as a campaign promise, I hereby vow to not shower you with bad last name puns along the lines of “Make Uni Schein!” or “Vote for Uni's Scheining Star!” Starting NOW.)
CANDIDATES FOR SECRETARY/TREASURER
SAMANTHA NGUYEN
My name is Samantha Nguyen and I am running for senior class secretary/treasurer for the 2007-2008 school year. I have previous student council experience and I am an organized, responsible, and reliable person. I have been in multiple leadership roles before and I am used to participating in and coming up with different projects and activities.
I am willing to take on any responsibility that comes with being secretary of the senior class. I am very dedicated to all projects that I work on and I feel that I could make a difference in the projects that Student Council will do next year. I connect well with the Uni community and I collaborate with others well which I think will be an asset in planning events and projects.
Overall, I believe that I am an excellent candidate for Student Council senior class secretary/treasurer and I would love the opportunity to be a representative for the class of 2008.
CARL ZIELINSKI
It's time for a change of management. With most of our ex-class officers now executives, someone has to step up to the plate. I, Carl Zielinski, am willing to do just that. That's why I'm currently running for senior class secretary.
What skills do I have, you ask? Excellent question, class of 2008! I am a dedicated, intelligent, humorous, creative, talented (and not to mention modest) person who would work very hard to make sure that our senior year is our best at Uni. I would encourage more clubs, activities, and trips (and find a way to pay for them), and make sure that everyone has an unbelievably killer senior year.
Even though I currently have no officer experience, I can learn quickly whatever skills I need. Also, I would carry that eternally useful “outsider politician” status if I were to be elected to office, which we can always use more of in the Uni political scene.
If elected, I would work to not only make class wars actually feasible, as well as competitive and entertaining. No more contests where only subbies compete, I say. Want to see more eating contests to raise money for charity? I'll work for that if that's what you want. If not, I'll try to get whatever it is that you want.
So to summarize: if you elect me, Carl Zielinski senior secretary, you'll have a pretty darn great year. After all, what do you have to lose?
CANDIDATE FOR SFAC REPRESENTATIVE
EUNICE HOW
I'm running for SFAC (Student-Faculty Advisory Committee) officer for the class of 2008 for the 07-08 school year. In addition to my experience serving on SFAC for the last three years, I hold leadership positions in other areas. I have been co-president of S4BW (Students for a Better World) club for three years and counting. Also, I am a member of the youth group planning team at my church. I know how the Uni system works and have helped to determine policies for the handbook, elevator, lockers, tardies, and parking. Most recently, I have worked to write and establish the honor code along with the honor council. Eunice How will she do it? With determination, hard work, and organization! You have a voice - don't forget to vote!
