Subbie musicians impress

Posted Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2006, The OG, student awards

Five subfreshman musicians recently earned the highest possible ranking in a competition sponsored by the Illinois Grade School Music Association. The IGSMA's Northern Division District III contest was held Feb. 18 in Bloomington.

The participants were Lisa Boyce (French horn), Miles Bribriesco (cello), Amy Ding (piano), Ben Lee (trombone), and Isabel Vazquez (clarinet).

All five students received Division I rankings, while Bribriesco and Vazquez also earned “Best of Day” awards in their respective rooms.

Judges awarded participating musicians a Division I, II, or III ranking, with Division I being the highest. Students could perform a choral, wind, or strings part. Contestants selected their own music in conjunction with their private teachers.

Fine arts executive teacher Richard Murphy accompanied the students to Bloomington.
