Uni students to compete in Sigma Alpha Iota music contest
Posted Friday, March 31, 2006, The OG, arts
This Saturday, Sigma Alpha Iota will host its Sixth Annual Solo Music Competition. A number of Uni students from different grade levels will be competing: subfreshman Maria Gao (voice and piano); freshmen Jason He (piano), Karen Han (piano), and Alan Liang (violin); sophomore Michelle Gao (piano); and senior Rose M. Kory (voice).
Unlike previous years when the competition was held at Smith Hall, this year's contest will take place at the Music Building on campus. In addition, it will also be held in two different rooms at once: the auditorium will be reserved only for pianists, and all others (singers, trumpet players, violinists, etc.) will play in Room 1201.
The competition will begin at 9 a.m. and end at around 3:40 p.m., with two breaks between groups of musicians. The first performance in the auditorium will be Michelle Gao on piano, and Rose M. Kory will start out the competition in Room 1201.
An audience is allowed, and people are encouraged to come and support the performers. Results of the competition will be mailed to all participants within a week of the competition date. Winners from the junior level (grades 5-8) and winners from the senior level (grades 9-12) will receive $100 in prize money.
